Termites

  • How do I know if I have a termite infestation?

Termites typically live underground, so they can be very tricky to spot, although there are a few signs to look out for. These include swarms of winged insects in or near your home; wings, which are dropped by the termites once they find a new colony location. Visible termite damage such as soft spots in wood floor, sheetrock walls and wood trim are a sign that you need us to inspect your home. Mud tunnels on your foundation or mud tunnels inside your home are sure signs of an infestation.

  • Can I treat for termites myself?

Termites are aggressive pests and getting rid of them often involves the careful application of a chemical. Any breaks in this chemical barrier will allow termites right back in. A knowledge of how termites enter a home and the ability to easily access these places is needed as is special equipment, chemicals, and the knowledge of how to appropriately mix and apply the chemicals. If you treat your home yourself, then you will not have a termite damage repair warranty. If your treatment fails, then you are stuck with paying for termite damage in the future. Remember, home owner’s insurance will not pay for your termite damage. When all is said in done, it’s usually best to include a professional for both cost and expertise.

  • Which termite methods are most effective?

Non-repellent termiticides (such as Termidor, the chemical used by Arceneaux Pest Management) kill termites who burrow into the barrier zone. Repellent termiticides simply repel the termites rather than kill them. Non-repellent termiticides have proven to be most effective at killing current termite infestations as well as preventing future ones.

  • Will the chemicals harm my family or pets?

No. Termiticides have been heavily tested by the EPA and pose no risk to pets, children, or adults. Arceneaux is hyper cautious and will apply all products correctly so as to protect you and our technicians.

  • How long will my treatment last?

Termidor can last for many years. Our contracts are based on 11 years of efficacy of Termidor in the soil around your home. Of course, this does depend on the completeness of the application of termiticide, environmental conditions, and the density of termites. Baits often take a few months before they begin killing off termites.
